INSIDE – OUTSIDE liquid wax workshop with Peter Bauhuis
Event Information
About this Event
Holes are crucial. We live from, through, out of holes, holes to breath, holes to spit, holes to look out, holes to peep in, holes to pour in, pin holes, peep holes, black holes. Hollow shapes need at least one hole. It is the threshold between inside and outside.
What happens on its edge?
We will examine this topological question working with wax. The qualities of wax allow processing our experiments in an easiness and quickness that is rather unusual for those who are used to work in metal.
DATES:
4 day workshop from 3rd to 6th December 2018
9-4pm
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
The course helps you to strengthen an understanding of how to develop three dimensional hollow shapes and make wax-models, that are aesthetically successful, being aware of holes and edges. You will build up an archive of possibilities, with making a vast amount of wax models and a selected number of cast pieces of jewellery and (very small) vessels.
WHY DO THIS COURSE:
Creating your own jewellery as a gift to yourself or another is incredibly satisfying, not only do you take away a personal momento, but you also gain skills and knowledge to be able to make jewellery at home.
ABOUT THE TUTOR:
Peter Bauhuis was born in 1965 in Friedrichshafen, Germany. He studied at Staatliche Zeichenakademie, Hanau and Academy of Fine Arts, Munich. His work is represented in Museum fuer Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg; Okresni muzeum Ceskeho raje Turnov; Alice and Louis Koch Collection, Basel; Schmuckmuseum Pforzheim; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne. In 2011 he won the Bavarian Sate Award for his vessels. He lives and works in Munich.
LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE:
This course is suited to people that are keen in working in three dimensions and want to learn the language of wax and are willing to think and understand about what they do. Some experience in gold & silversmithing is helpful but not necessary.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
Just bring your enthusiasm! Tools and materials are provided, price includes some waxes, some investment plaster and some basic non-precious materials. Sterling silver is available on request.
