Event description

Description

This free event (a precursor to the more formal programme of in:situ 2019, the New Zealand Institute of Architects Conference) provides architecture students and graduates embarking upon their careers in architecture with a chance to hear and learn from two of contemporary architecture's most progressive thinkers, Aljoša Dekleva and Tina Gregorič, from the Ljubljana, Slovenia-based practice Dekleva Gregorič Arhitekti.

Aljoša and Tina, who have won many of Europe’s most significant architecture awards, have both been visiting lecturers and critics at several academic institutions, including the Architectural Association London, Technical University Graz Austria, University of Ljubljana, IUAV Venice, Akademie der Kunste Berlin, University of Napoli Italy and DWM Mexico. They have also run a summer school studio at London’s Architectural Association and a workshop at CEDIM in Mexico, and mentored a nano-tourism design research group, which was recognised being an “outstanding example of design ingenuity” at the 24th Biennial of Design, Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Aljoša and Tina’s interests include (among many other things) systematic design processes, the relationships between heritage and contemporary, experimental shelters, collective housing, the blending of design typologies and compact housing – the practice first came to international attention with the compact XXS house, which was awarded the 2004 Silver Plate, European Architecture Award 'Luigi Cosenza'.
