Intellectual Fashion Show 2016
Sat, 8/10/2016, 12:00 PM – Sat, 5/11/2016, 4:00 PM NZDT
The NZ Fashion Museum and Blikfang bring you the Intellectual Fashion Show 2016: a multi media response to June Black's 1959 exhibition.
Throughout her life, June Black compiled a veritable wardrobe of metaphorical costumes; Costume to get onto one’s high horse, Costume to be worn over a heavy heart, Costume to extend exalted moments, Costume to face the ultimate discomfit of the guillotine, the gallows or the dentist …
These and her other costumes were proposed to creative practitioners working with fabric, photography, paint, plastic, ceramics, digital technology, metal, music and words. They were invited to choose and respond to one of them and to create their interpretation for display in this exhibition. With over 60 intriguing and varied renditions of June Black's costumes, this is an exhibition that stimulates the eye, and the intellect.
