International speaker series: enabling a just transition for workers and communities

About this event

We’re heading stateside for our international speaker series to explore how we can enable fairness for workers and communities as we transition to a low emissions future.

Our experts for this session are Adele Morris and Daniel Raimi, who will be sharing their respective insights from their research into communities dependent on fossil fuel industries in the US.

Adele and Daniel will explain what the transition from reliance on fossil fuels to renewable energy means for these communities – and what we in Aotearoa can learn from their work in our own pursuit of a just transition.

Adele Morris is a senior fellow in Economic Studies and the policy director for Climate and Energy Economics at the Brookings Institution, and she will be looking at the financial risks of industry collapse and how to improve climate risk reporting for central and local government. Adele is a leading global expert in designing carbon pricing policies and her research informs critical decisions related to climate change, energy, and tax policy.

Daniel Raimi is a fellow at Resources for the Future and a lecturer at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan. His expertise is in energy and climate policy with a focus on tools for an equitable energy transition. He will be sharing more about his recent paper on the policies and programs to promote fairness for workers and communities in transition.

Join Adele and Daniel, along with our Commissioners Catherine Leining and Dr Judy Lawrence, as they discuss the importance of enabling a just transition.
