About this Event

Hannah Bremner offers a series of 3 glass casting workshops, specifically focussed on small scaled kiln formed glass casting techniques (warm glass). These workshops will provide a foundation for further exploring the magic of glass as a small scale sculptural medium.

May – Sat 18th, Sun 19th, Sat 25th

Times: 9.30am to 3.30pm, with 1 hour lunch break.

In this introductory 3 day workshop you will learn how to cast from a wax or clay positive, how to create a two piece plaster mould to make multiple wax positives, how to create a refractory mould (that can be fired in a kiln and broken apart) and learn basic cold working ‘finishing’ techniques such as grinding and polishing (using diamond wheels and hand held tools).

• Gain a working knowledge of the basics of glass casting and follow best practice guidelines

• Create 3d forms to take through the closed casting (lost wax) mould making processes

• Create a small closed glass mould ready for firing which will result in the creation of a simple cast glass form requiring minimal clean up after firing

• Gain insight into the possibilities of working further in this exciting medium

• Gain a working knowledge and application of health & safety requirements for working with glass
