ABOUT TANYA:
Tanya was born in Putaruru, New Zealand. When she was four-years-old her family relocated to Auckland, where Tanya continues to be based, in Beachlands, on the Pohutukawa Coast. A country girl at heart, Tanya and her daughter Sofia live on seven-acres of land with plenty of room for animals, friends and family. Tanya’s accountancy business, beanies 2u, is located nearby.
Tanya was brought up in South Auckland and after completing her sixth-form year at Manurewa High school she set her heart on going to university to study accountancy, though Tanya’s father was not supportive of this at the time. Displaying the spirit that Tanya has for meeting challenges, which is still evident to this day, she secured a job as an Inland Revenue Dept. cadet – with part-time university study included. Tanya completed her studies and graduated from AUT with a Bachelor of Business, then going on to become a Chartered Accountant.
Combining Tanya’s love of working with figures, her talent for problem solving, and her genuine desire to help people to achieve success, has led to a full and satisfying career as a specialist accountant. Tanya has held roles in business services, as a financial controller and a systems advisor, and apart from a five-year break when her daughter was pre-school, she has worked in her chosen field for over 30 years now.
In 2001, Tanya felt it was time to create her own accountancy practice, beanies 2u. Starting with an initial client base of just ten clients, Tanya has now grown the business to look after over 130 clients and is a valued and respected member of her community.
Following a period of personal challenges Tanya decided to re-focus her energy and she became inspired to write a book. The words flowed readily, and over just two nights, she wrote a 6,000-word manuscript, and The Jellybean Theory was born. Driven by a passionate desire to use her skills and her experiences around coping with adversity and personal challenges, Tanya writes from the heart, and the result is nothing but authentic.
Tanya has identified a real gap in our children’s education around goal setting and money management. She has created The Jellybean Theory, with lively illustrations by Rakel King, as an engaging and fun way to introduce the tools necessary to encourage financial literacy, into the lives of young people. Tanya has willingly and openly shared her own life journey, by way of showing how, with the right skills and a positive mindset, you can develop the resilience you need to have throughout your life.
Tanya is on a mission to get her message out there, to create a money management programme to be presented in schools, and to community groups, and has already received a lot of positive interest, support and enthusiasm for The Jellybean Theory.
ABOUT ELLIE:
Ellie was born in Birmingham, England, and emigrated to Auckland, New Zealand with her family at age 12, in 2007.
From early childhood right through all of her teen and young adult years, Ellie has taken on all kinds of leadership and mentorship roles. She has always been passionate about embracing life's challenges and being there for others as they both navigate their struggles and also strive towards becoming the best version of themselves.
Ellie's working background spans across teaching/facilitating (French, drama, film, personal development), as well as videography/photography, and sales & marketing. Her formal education is in directing and writing for screen and theatre, and her explorations in this field largely shapes her passion and desire to help other people connect to their own stories, desires and dreams, then put visual plans in place to make them happen.
In 2018, publishing her memoir (The Big Sister Project) about her coming-of-age experience as an Au Pair in France opened up a door for Ellie to connect with an international community of young people who were seeking advice, insights and guidance in life and growing up. Her author and mentoring journey went on to inspire Ellie to pool her knowledge/tools from other areas of life and start privately coaching young people, both 1-1 and in groups, in her own business (also called The Big Sister Project). She helps them with anything from mental health issues, to friendship challenges, school, family life, and future planning (and everything in between!).
Ellie's overall passion lies in holding a safe, warm space, where young people feel empowered, at their own pace, to speak, be heard, and connect in a way that feels authentic to them. She believes it’s vital our young people are equipped with language and skills to not only process and walk their own path with their eyes open, but to also help them contribute (on some level) to growing a greater, more creative world for others.
Alongside coaching and mentoring, Ellie has been a keynote and guest speaker at various parenting events and other personal development summits, featured on The AM show, radio, and is also a regular contributor to 'Teachers Matter' magazine.
