About this event

Leadership development is a continuous and very personal process, but there are certain points in a leader's career that often require a jump in development due to a change in focus, or the need for new skills to come to the fore. The step from 'doing' roles into 'leading' roles is one example, as is the step from functional leadership roles into strategic leadership roles.

In this session, Nina will explore some of the development challenges that leaders face at these junctures with a special focus on strategic thinking development. To illustrate the transformative role that coaching can play in the development process, she will present a coaching case study of a technical specialist coachee aiming to make the shift into a strategic leadership role.

Nina will also provide an overview of the tools she used during the coaching engagement including the Cognitive Process Profile (CPP) and her own theoretical frameworks of strategic thinking capability.

This event will be held online via Zoom. A joining link will be sent the day prior to the event.

About our Presenter Nina Field

Nina is a business psychologist with a passion for building capability in leaders, teams and organisations. She has a particular interest in empowering leaders to achieve impactful results through building strategic thinking capability.

Nina has spent the last 18 years working with people and how they think and act. She spent 10 of those years as a Military Psychologist optimising leadership and people performance in demanding environments. During that time, Nina made her foray into strategy when she developed a recruitment strategy for the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF), an organisation of 10,000. She also worked on strategy as part of the NZDF Psychology leadership team. Working on strategy got her curious about the psychology of strategic thinking and started her on the path to her work today. Nina has also been involved as an owner/operator of two small businesses where she learned lessons which, in hindsight, were strategy lessons. Coming full circle, Nina is excited to be able to inject some of what she has learnt about psychology and strategy back into NZ small and large businesses.
