Event Information
Description
Presentation: By Andy Webb, Senior Manager, ONRSR on "Rail Safety: the role of signalling asset management"
Signal engineering plays an essential part in keeping our railways safe across all phases of the asset lifecycle. Asset management and rail safety are inextricably linked with signal engineers contributing a pivotal role through their standards, systems and processes.
The presentation will introduce the rail safety regulator, ONRSR, and the fundamental requirements of the Rail Safety National Law on those working within the Australian rail industry before exploring how effective asset management, particularly of the signalling system, supports compliance with legislative duties.
Andy is the Senior Manager - Major Projects at the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator, where he oversees the accreditation applications associated with nationally significant railway projects.
Andy has over 30 years’ experience in the railway industry covering Australia, Asia and Europe. During his career, Andy has been responsible for the delivery of:
- signalling maintenance
- railway infrastructure projects
- asset management evaluations and certification audits.
He has also authored railway standards both for the UK’s Network Rail and for the Australian RISSB covering risk-based maintenance, level crossing inspections and signalling infrastructure.
Andy is a Chartered Professional Engineer, a Member of the Institution of Signal Engineers and a Fellow of Engineers Australia.
