Get to know Christchurch’s own Tui award-winning jazz artist Umar Zakaria in a relaxing afternoon recital. Dubbed a 'sonic warrior' (jazzlocal32.com), Umar is known across the country for his virtuosic solos and original compositions, performed with power and intensity by his famous quartet.
This will be a rare opportunity to witness that same musical spirit channeled into a more intimate chamber setting, further highlighting the dynamic interplay and dialogue between musicians that is characteristic of the jazz tradition.
Supported by local pianist Nick Pitts, the duo will be performing a selection of their favourite classic jazz tunes. Immerse yourself in the works of jazz composers such as Duke Ellington and Miles Davis, mixed in with some Broadway and dance classics, all expertly performed to get your toes gently tapping.
NEW: Request your favourite jazz tunes when you book a ticket! Simply write the tune you would like to request in the provided space at the checkout stage when you book online. The artists cannot guarantee to perform all requests, but all submissions will be considered for inclusion in the performance.
Tickets are limited – previous shows have been sold out so book a ticket online to reserve your seat and avoid disappointment!
