Event description

Revered for their brilliant live performances and superb musicianship, the John Butler Trio are one of the most successful Australian bands of the current era and are returning to New Zealand for a one-off show at the stunning Church Road Winery in the Hawkes Bay for Good Friday 2018.

The multi-award winning Blues and Roots act are one of those rare acts who have managed to successfully straddle across mainstream and alternative releasing a consistent stream of chart busting tunes.

Shaping the way independent music is released and received in Australia they have graced the stage of just about every major festival on the global circuit. Their captivating and dynamic live performances continue to see them grow in stature and popularity by doing what they do best, touring their socks off!

In 2014 the trio’s most recent album ‘Flesh & Blood’ took out yet another accolade - the Aria Award for Best Blues and Roots Album. The band are a constant on the world touring circuit, their avid fans can expect a new studio album to be released early in 2018.

Previous performances from John Butler Trio in New Zealand include the Rhythm and Vines festival in 2009, Winery Tour and Big Day Out in 2011, and a sold-out Powerstation show in 2014.

Support includes:

L.A.B was founded by the legendary Kora brothers Brad Kora (drums) and Stu Kora (guitar, keys) and quickly engaged the extraordinary talent of Joel Shadbolt on lead vocals & guitar and Ara Adams-Tamatea from the mighty Katchafire on bass. L.A.B bring a unique blend of soulful-rock and electronic-funk with a focus on exceptional melodies delivering a high-octane, energy packed set.

Alae is what you get when you mix multi-instrumentalists Alex Farrell-Davey and Allister Meffan; two old high school mates who are talented musicians in their own right. Add to the mix Jayden Lee on drums and a new inspiration is born. They are an emerging, local NZ band with a world-class sound that needs to be experienced to be understood.

Hailing from the sunny Hawke’s Bay the Phil Edwards Band has a distinctive summer sound, which makes them the perfect accompaniment to a cold beer or wine on a warm evening. Their live set brings together elements of blues, funk, reggae and country all with an honest soulful vibe. The band’s catchy sing-along melodies appeal to a wide audience and their soulful songs range from warm acoustic ballads reminiscent of Jack Johnson through to blues numbers with a John Mayer or Ben Harper feel.

One girl, one guitar, a little blonde power that holds on to an audience with an infectious passion you can’t help but watch. Folkish Singer-songwriter with a sonic art degree tucked in her back pocket Sarah Wiig is an interesting musical identity.

A musical journey beginning similar to many, in the angst of adolescence - Uncertain Girl is as the title suggests an album of youthful musical expression, leaving the listener engaged. Recorded with funding from NZ On Air, Sarah was humbled and inspired by the studio environment.
