		Kāpiti | Hospice NZ subcutaneous syringe driver training (annual update) image

This is a refresher course for registered and enrolled nurses working in aged residential care and community settings. The update workshop is a one hour presentation that covers the theory, practical knowledge and skills required for managing a syringe driver. Nurses attending the update session are not required to stay on for the practical component that is part of the full competency.

Learning Outcomes for Syringe Driver Training Programme:

Following this training participants will:

  1. Be able to assess patients for suitability for a syringe driver
  2. Understand their professional, clinical and legal responsibilities
  3. Gain an updated competency in setting up and troubleshooting syringe drivers
  4. Gain an updated competency in calculating medications and knowing their actions and effects
  5. Develop communication techniques for use with colleagues, patients and whānau
