About this event

We are honoured to welcome esteemed cultural practitioners James Webster, Hinemoa Jones, Rikki Solomon, Whetu Silver and Horomona Horo, who will share their immense mātauranga. Karetao are an integral part of Māori culture, despite limited documentation. During the revival of Taonga Pūoro, led by the late Dr. Hirini Melbourne, discussions highlighted the synergy between karetao and Taonga Pūoro. This collaboration enriches the performance and expression of Māori culture, weaving together sound, music, spirit, and storytelling. This wānanga includes a special performance on Friday evening, followed by weekend workshops focused on the creation of karetao.

This event is open to all whānau and community members — from tamariki to kaumātua.

Registrations are essential Cost: $50 per person (all ages)
