Description

What is a laser cutter?
Laser cutting uses a computer controlled high powered laser to cut, etch or engrave a vector design out of a chosen material. It does this by either melting, burning, or vaporizing small amounts of material.

What can you do with it?
A laser cutter can be used with acrylic, wood, MDF, leather, and cardboard to cut out and engrave designs. When it comes to what can be created with this machine, the sky is practically the limit! Some examples include 3D structures like boxes, lanterns, and cases; and simpler 2D items like keychains, ID badges, and tokens.

How to get started:
Only those who have gained access to the Create and Maker Space can attend training sessions. If you haven't already, get involved today! Once a you have access, complete our laser cutter training session, download the inspire guide and then you're all set to use it during scheduled studio time. We also have Creative Technologists who are there to help you and regular workshops to inspire you to create what you imagine!

Please note that all Create Space sessions and events are only open to current University of Auckland staff and students.
