About this event

What is a Laser Cutter?

A laser cutter uses a computer controlled high powered laser to cut, etch or engrave a vector design out of a chosen material. It does this by either melting, burning, or vaporizing small amounts of material.

Before you book

Please ensure that you have completed the following two steps in Canvas before you book this training session:

1. Complete our online orientation.

2. Complete our online preparation module for the laser cutter (you will need to have completed online orientation to gain access to this page.)

Learn more about our two-part equipment training process.

About this practice session

You will be provided with an in-person walkthrough of how to use the laser cutter by our Maker Space Coordinator or a Creative Technologist. The purpose is to ensure that you have a practical understanding of how to operate the equipment. Once our Maker Space Coordinator is satisfied that you are able to safely operate the equipment, you will be free to use it whenever you wish.
