Description

LEANZ and Simpson Grierson are pleased to invite you to a seminar by Anne-Marie Brook on improving the measurement of human rights across countries for use in policy-making and research.

Venue: Simpson Grierson, level 24 HSBC Tower, 195 Lambton Quay, Wellington 6011

Date: 28 August 2018

Time: 5:30pm for refreshments, for a 6:00pm seminar start, followed by Q&A.

About the topic:

Based in New Zealand and operating internationally, the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) is the first global project to track the human rights performance of countries around the world. They have recently released their beta dataset containing pilot data on civil and political rights for 13 countries and more established metrics of progress on five economic and social rights (education, health, food, housing. and work) for more than 120 countries worldwide. In this presentation, Anne-Marie will present HRMI's suite of data, discuss their plans for expansion of country and rights coverage, and allow some time for discussion about how these data can best be used by talk attendees in their work.

About the speaker:

Anne-Marie Brook is an economist by training, with previous work experience at the OECD and in the NZ public sector. She is co-founder and development lead for the Human Rights Measurement Initiative, based at Motu Economic and Public Policy Research, an independent not-for-profit research institute based in Wellington, New Zealand.
