AN EDUCATIONAL TOOLBOX

7pm-8.30pm : Parents and General Public session

Does your child struggle with learning and you're not sure why? Are you an educator in need of the tools to help a student progress? This seminar will delve into how we use our brains to learn, how to tell if your child or student is affected by a vision, language or sensory processing disorder - and what you can do about it. You'll also learn how a vision, language or sensory processing disorder is related to learning disabilities, such as dyslexia.

Presented by OCULA, in conjunction with SHOUT and Dynamic Development Occupational Therapy Service, this seminar will feature three presentations by Danielle Ross, Behavioural Optometrist (BO), Hallie Pearson, Speech & Language Therapist (SLT) and Fiona Brown, Paediatric Occupational Therapist (OT).

A child with learning difficulties can often be 'pigeon-holed' into a specific bracket. But many signs and symptoms of a visual, language or sensory processing disorder are similar, and can be confused if not properly diagnosed.

Each speaker will cover:

• What a SLT/OT/BO actually does.

• Common misconceptions.

• How a does a SLT/OT/BO fit in with dyslexia?

• SLT – language delays and developmental language disorders

• OT – sensory processing disorders

• BO – vision & visual information processing disorders

• Signs / symptoms and statistics on prevalence

• Best age for assessment and comments on B4School check

You will then have a chance to ask any specific questions you may have during a Q&A session.
