About this event

As a designer, Nathan McKendry’s passion for lighting design began at Palmerston North’s Regent Theatre, where he and three generations of family would work on the local Operatic Society productions including Les Miserable, The Sound of Music and Rock of Ages. After completing studies at Toi Whakaari, Nathan spent 15 years working as a lighting designer, technician and manager around Aotearoa. Nathan feels most inspired working with a team to create an immersive world through the seamless integration of costumes, set, sound, audio visual, performance and lighting.

In this online webinar, he will share his own process in creating a design and how directors and performers can collaborate in the process. Nathan will share some information on lighting options and answer questions on design, fixtures and the lead up to opening night.

Designing for theatre, dance, events and large lighting systems, Nathan’s favourites include Tiki Taane Mahuta by Taki Rua Productions, World Expo – Shanghai, End of the Golden Weather by Auckland Theatre Company, BATS Theatre refurbishment with Ligthaus Systems Ltd and Titus Andronicus with Long Cloud Youth Theatre.
