LinkedIn Local Hamilton - Grow your business

Linkedin Local Hamilton is back, and we're excited to bring you this event at another world-class location. The award-winning Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts, at the University of Waikato, will be the host for our final event of 2019. The Academy is a purpose-built arts facility containing two main theatres, the Dr John Gallagher Concert Chamber and the Playhouse Theatre. It also houses the Calder & Lawson Art Gallery, and extensive glass-lined foyers overlook the tree-lined Waikato campus lake.


The theme for this event is Business Growth, and speakers include local fashion icon Annah Stretton. Be inspired by the success stories of local Waikato-based business-people, whose businesses have experienced rapid growth far beyond the region. Stories inspire action. What is LinkedIn Local?

The idea behind LinkedIn Local is to meet some of your online connections, and to meet the person behind the LinkedIn profile. It started in a small town in Australia of Coffs Harbour, where a local woman asked her LinkedIn connections who wanted to meet up for coffee, and hash-tagged it #LinkedInLocal. 18 people turned up for coffee, but people reacted around the world, and the concept spread from city to city. This is the eighth time out for LinkedIn Local in Hamilton, and we've had around 1200 people attend the 7 events so far.


The popularity of the LinkedIn Local events indicates that a lot of us want to connect face-to-face with people again, in this increasingly digital world.


The Hamilton events are free to attend, but a couple of the events have had a donation option. We're doing that again for this event, so please consider the donation ticket option. Last year, we raised close to $6500 for SEED WAIKATO - a movement that brings millennials together to improve their wellbeing, with events and workshops that inspire.

LinkedIn Local is about meeting new people, and making new connections from the online world, in person. But it's become about more with LinkedIn Local Hamilton - it's also about empowering the local business community, from hearing local business success stories. The value of experience can't be replicated, or computer generated - and you never know what it might inspire.


The free event begins and ends with networking, which includes free food and drinks!


LinkedIn Local Hamilton has a different business topic each event, with a panel session with three-to-four local business leaders in their respective areas, sharing their stories. This portion of the night usually lasts around an hour, with a portion of Q and A finishing the session.

Annah Stretton

FASHION DESIGNER / ENTREPRENREUR / PHILAPTHROPIST - ANNAH STRETTON | ANNAH STRETTON FOUNDATION

A Waikato local, Annah is the founder of the Annah Stretton fashion label & nation-wide retailer, and is also an award-winning business and social entrepreneur.

Awards include 2018 Kiwibank NZ Local Hero of the Year, the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to Fashion/Business/Community, and the 2005 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year.

Annah’s philanthropic efforts reach far and wide across New Zealand. In addition to the three charities that she has established under her own Foundation; RAW, Kia Puāwai and The Good Collective; Annah is the founding Chair of the Waikato Women’s Refuge and a Board member of UNICEF NZ.

All proceeds from the donations go toward the Annah Stretton Foundation.


Bill Neal

COMPANY DIRECTOR / FOUNDER - SWEET AS POPCORN

Bill Neal's business started out of his garage in Raglan in 2008. Originally from San Diego, the surf attracted Bill Neal to Raglan in October 2002. A back injury put an end to his career as a construction contractor, and after an ACC stint, started the Popcorn business.

He began cooking popcorn in a mobile cooker at the Frankton Markets in Hamilton each Saturday morning. After moving its base to Hamilton, Sweet As Popcorn started to appear in supermarkets, dairies and service stations around New Zealand. In 2015-16, opened its third Factory, and is now also exporting the products overseas.


Mike Jenkins | Richie Jenkins

The Instillery has grown from an idea discussed with some friends to operating across three countries from Hamilton. Originally a Waikato local, Mike Jenkins recently moved The Instillery from its former Auckland base, to operate out of the Waikato.

The Instillery recently merged with Origin, to create an end-to-end technology provider. IT services include expertise across cloud, automation, connectivity, security and managed services, and the business target mid-market, enterprise, local and central government organisations.

The Instillery now have some 200 staff in offices across the country.


Kylie Harcourt

Kylie is a director at HGB: Strategic Marketing, a marketing consultancy based in Hamilton. After starting out in 2013, HGB won the Emerging Business of the Year award at the Westpac Waikato Business Excellence Awards in 2015. HGB now have 15 staff, and their services include Organisational Strategy, Strategic marketing, Communication & PR, and Advertising.

Kylie combines her experience as a former marketing manager, agency account director and creative designer to deliver results that have impact. Kylie says she's "passionate about creative, I am passionate about strategy and I am passionate about combining these two elements to deliver a results-driven marketing experience with a difference."
