Description

People of New Zealand and Argentina are developing ever closer connections through sport, culture and tourism. There remains much about today’s Argentina that New Zealanders know little about, but this is an ever changing relationship.

In this seminar, three distinguished speakers from Argentina’s Council for International Relations (their country’s equivalent to the New Zealand Institute for International Affairs) will discuss how Argentina views the Asia-Pacific region, China’s influences on their country and how relations between Argentina and New Zealand are important.

Eduardo A. Sadous is a retired Argentine Ambassador. He served as Argentine Ambassador to Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and Venezuela and was previously undersecretary of International Economic Negotiations (1998-99). He was also Director of the Committee on Asian Affairs at the Argentine Council for International Relations (since 2011). He has previously been a Professor at Belgrano University, Salvador University, National University of La Plata, and Catholic University of Salta, etc. President of the International Law Association -Argentine Branch (since 2017). Member of the Argentine Academy of History, Argentine Academy of Communication Sciences, Academia del Ptata, etc.

Jorge Malena is counsellor member of the Argentine Council for International Relations, where is member of its Asian Affairs Committee and Chair of the China Working Group. Director and senior lecturer of the BSc in China Studies (Universidad del Salvador – Buenos Aires, Argentina). Director of the Diploma on Contemporary China (Catholic University of Argentina). Lecturer in the Argentine Foreign Service Institute and visiting professor at China Foreign Affairs University.

Patricio Giusto is coordinator of the Australasia committee and member of the China and US committees at the Council on International Relations of Argentina (CARI). Executive Director of the Observatory on China-Argentina relations and Managing Director of “Diagnóstico Político” consulting group. Political advisor at the National Congress of Argentina. Regular lecturer and contributor to international and local media, especially on China and Latin America affairs.PhD candidate in International Studies (Di Tella University). Master of China Studies with the Youth of Excellence Scheme of China (Zhejiang University). Master in Public Policies (Latin American Social Sciences Institute). Bachelor's degree in Political Sciences (Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina). Visiting Professor at Zhejiang University. Associate Professor at Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina.
