Event description
Te Kurahuna Ltd present 'A Day with Dr Di and Mark Kopua sharing Mahi a Atua'

About this Event

THE DETAILS:

Te Kurahuna Ltd brings Mahi a Atua wānanga to Australia during the time of Oturu (Māori Calendar). In this event we acknowledge the need to prioritise the Aboriginal Tribes of Australia and offer a space to share how Mahi a Atua can address inequity for indigenous people.

Learn how to operationalise Mahi a Atua in your mahi (work). Share pūrākau (traditional narratives) from our ancestors and enjoy connecting with like minded people who aim to work collectively to scale up indigenous knowledge and scale down western knowledge.

Mahi a Atua is a way of being for a group of people known as Mataora (change agents). Mataora learn creation and customary pūrākau from our ancestors which support us to indigenise the spaces we occupy and liberate ourselves to thrive in the communities we live in.

Venue: Karstens Conference and Events Centre – 111 Harrington Street, The Rocks NSW 2000. (Approximately a 3 minute walk from Circular Quay station).

Tickets: $300 AUD (All registration/tickets are processed through Eventbrite).

CLICK ON THE EVENTBRITE LINK ABOVE to process your order. You cannot register or purchase tickets directly through us.

Bring your own food/drink.

WHAT YOU GET ON THE DAY:

Te Wehenga - a glimpse of how to operationalize pūrākau into your everyday life. Weaving together Māori creation stories and contextualizing them in our contemporary environment is the focus of this wānanga. Te Wehenga involves returning to ‘Te Ōrokohanga’ (Māori Creation) in order to understand what the barriers were to growth. Attendees will develop a pathway that embraces the values and principles unique to Mahi a Atua wānanga. Using oranga whakapapa in action involves first learning how to form a relationship with our ancestral knowledge in a fun and supportive environment.

Objectives:

1. Attendees will learn a minimum of four pūrākau from Te Wehenga o Ranginui rāua ko Papatuānuku (the separation of sky father and earth mother).

2. Attendees will learn ways to utilise the pūrākau within their respective environments, tailored to the attendees’ needs and characteristics.

3. Learn simple and reliable methods for evaluating process and outcome.

4. To describe three ways for attendees to ensure they ‘be the change’.

A MESSAGE FROM US:

Our wānanga are about growing spaces for ‘communities of practice’ (those who share a passion in a particular kaupapa) where we learn to appreciate ‘critical thinking.’ Mataora learn to respect ‘kōrerorero’ and we value spaces and conditions where this dialogue can happen.

Kia pakari ai tō tātou Mātauranga Māori i roto i te mahi hauora. Whaia te toi huarewa hei tautoko. Ma ēnei rauemi ā tātou tātou e hono.

Mauri ora! - Dr Di & Mark
