Event description

Description

The Auckland Branch of the NZPsS is proud to host our next evening event. Dr Elizabeth du Preez will enlighten us with her insight on the ethical and professional issues associated with electronic and social media communication. This also offers a fantastic networking opportunity, and the chance to connect with your fellow psychologists over wine and nibbles. Tickets are limited (sales close on 31 July, if not sold-out prior).

Managing Digital Communication with Clients

Upwards of 90% of New Zealanders have mobile phones and the uptake of digital and electronic forms of communication is growing every year. We only have to look at the twitter wars, the Instagram embarrassments and published “text-gates” in our newspapers to know that we have fully entered the digital age of communication. This short presentation will focus on how to maintain professional and therapeutic “talk” while managing digital “talk” which has its roots in social communication.

Dr Elizabeth du Preez is a counselling and clinical psychologist with 19 years of experience. She lectures part-time in the Discipline of Psychology at AUT University and practices clinically at Central Psychology in Auckland. Elizabeth trained in interpersonal psychotherapy and family systemic work, and has worked in private and university settings in South Africa and New Zealand. She has a particular interest in eating disorders, couple therapy and ethical considerations in therapeutic practice. She also offers monthly family therapy consultation to the ADHB.
