Welcome Art-Lovers to the Mangaweka "Yellow Church" Gallery FAKES & FORGERIES Exhibition/Competition 2025!

ARTISTS, R - U - REDDY to create some mind-blowing Art pieces that will challenge the Artworlds perception of reality? Join us on Labour Weekend 2025 at the iconic "Yellow Church" Gallery on SH1 in MANGAWEKA for a fun and exciting event where Artists showcase their creativity through their clever and colourfull Fakes and Forgeries!

The Format is Simple!;

  • Create an "Exact Replica" of a well known Artwork
  • Create "A copy with a Twist" (We like these - ideas in motion!).
  • OR Create a completely New Design/image, yet done in the style of a recognisable artist (say for example a Picasso, Warhol, Banksy or even a Colin McMahon!).

Celebrating 18 years since its inception in 2007, F&F’s was inspired by Mangaweka born World famous Forger Karl Sim (aka C.F. Goldie) and will be curated by Rangitikei Resident Artist & Musician Richard Aslett, who has won several art competitions himself, while also appearing on New Zealand’s Got Talent, X-Factor, the revamped ‘Popstars’ TV programs and now plays drums with NZ rock band 'The New Variants!'. He will be joined by trusty ‘Apprentice’ Michael Cathels, both who are now shaking-up the fashion world by sporting their trademark ‘NZ Walk Shorts & Socks’ - with which they also appeared on TV3’s ‘The Project’ NZ just a couple of years ago.

Richard says There’ll be Heaps of great prizes and surprises in store for this now legendary Art exhibition. Exact dates and details are yet to be confirmed, with on-line entry forms being released in mid August, yet the actual Exhibition will open Saturday 25th of October onLabour weekend, to coincided with annual Mangaweka Mega event of markets, LIVE music, massive Book Fair and garage sales events”

Richard added "This in an oportunity for Artists, and veiwers, to immerse themselves in a World where Art meets deception and to let your imagination run wild. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to create, enjoy, experience and be part of an Art Event that will totally blow your mind!"

The ‘Yellow Church’ Gallery now also features collectable Antiques and is always on the lookout for exciting new Artists. Simply forward info/images to mangawekagallery@xtra.co.nz - Open 10-5pm weekends, most other days, and by appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Isn't FAKING artwork, kind of, not kind of Kewl?

The past masters all did it! In NZ/Aotearoa, if you fully acknowledge the original Artist that inspired the work (& don't try to pass it of as created by them) it is fine & dandy. The main thing is FUN. It gives established Artists an excuse & encourages Novices & Kids into the beginnings of Art!

Organised by
