Mangere-Otahuhu Local Economic Development Forum June 2018


Purpose


to create an environment to both inform and evoke community local economic development in Mangere-Otahuhu led by the community and giving voice to the community;


and to establish local incubators of opportunity


Principles/Values


  • Nothing is free, everything has value … every transaction has a cost and benefit –
  • using multiple capital trading – human [time, skills, cultural knowledge etc], social [networks, cooperatives etc], financial [local currency, cash etc], and built and natural resources
  • Untapping local voice, passion and knowledge – from flaxroots; building capacity and capability
  • Building on indigenous and local models of enterprise
  • the potential is in each of us


Target


Mangere-Otahuhu residents of all ages, social enterprises and organisations engaging in economic development

  • ME Family Services, CIDANZ, et al – local enterprises ... ANY ONE INTERESTED
  • Luo Lei [ATEED], Christine O’Brien – local board


Programme Structure –


a mixed communication model of participation, input and reflection. Probably 3 components (morning and afternoon) and then a synthesis


Each session would have a focus speaker, a few local practitioners, and then group reflection/engagement


Space will be available for mini-market and displays


  1. 1. Understanding Economy – local economic, human, social, natural and built – the foundations of trading
  2. 2. Social enterprise – a structure and model for building business around the family and community
  3. 3. Regenerative, Thriving Community – Global Development Goals
  4. 4. A Mangere/Otahuhu local economic framework – workshopping and building platforms for action & impact
