Event description
This is a fun, warm and inclusive event for climbers and non-climbers. Funds raised will help people with Multiple Sclerosis to get outside.

About this Event

The Mastering Mountains Climbing Fundraiser is all about helping people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) get outdoors. This fun and inclusive event will raise money for Mastering Mountains Charitable Trust, so they can continue to give grants that enable people with MS to overcome the obstacles preventing them from enjoying the outdoors. Entry fees will support future grant applications and the running of the Trust.

Participants can register for one of four categories, listed below. Points will be awarded for each climb completed by a participant – the number of points equal to the grade of the climb. The winners of each category will recieve a prize. There will also be lots of spot prizes.

Elite: a competitive category for competent climbers. Participants will be awarded points for completed climbs rated grade 17 and above. First-place prize is a Beal Diablo Rope 9.8mm (RRP $350). Entry into this category is $20 pp.

Open: a competitive category for climbers and non-climbers. Participants will be awarded points for all climbs, no matter the grade. Rainbow climbs will be awarded a blanket 12 points. First-place prize is a Macpac Boulder Daypack (RRP $160). Entry into this category is $15 pp.

Group: an inclusive category for families and groups of non-climbers, up to four people. Participants will be awarded points for all climbs completed by members of the group, no matter the grade. Rainbow climbs will be awarded a blanket 12 points. First-place prize is an Entertainment Book (RRP $70). Entry into this category is $40 for the group.

Adaptive: an inclusive category for people with disabilities. Routes specifically suited to this category will be available. Participants will be awarded points for all climbs, no matter the grade. Rainbow climbs will be awarded a blanket 12 points. First-place prize is a MitoQ Prize Pack. Entry into this category is $15 pp.

The YMCA Adventure Centre has generously offered free entry to anyone participating in this event. Shoes and harnesses will be available for hire from the YMCA. Participants will be able to purchase tickets and make donations at the event, using EFTPOS and cash.

About Mastering Mountains

Mastering Mountains Charitable Trust exists to enrich the lives of people affected by Multiple Sclerosis by helping them get outdoors. We do this because the research is clear: getting outdoors is better for people, and can improve quality of life for people with MS.

To this end, we offer grants that enable people with MS to get outside and pursue outdoor missions that will effect lifelong change in them and their communities. Above all, we believe in the the importance of giving hope.

The Climbing Fundraiser will raise funds to support future grant applications and the running of the Trust.
