Matariki is a wonderful time to connect, create and honour through hands-on design and storytelling. The jewellery designs provided in the workshop can be personalised and whatever is made in the workshop can be kept by workshop attendees.
For those attending, you'll be encouraged to share through storytelling and make connections during a fun, creative and relaxed two-hour workshop setting. The hope is that offering a creative toi Māori workshop, attendees build a stronger connection to Matariki and its significance to us here in Aotearoa/New Zealand.
You must register to attend as walk ins will be turned away on the day. There is no cost to registered workshop attendees. All materials will be provided and tools for use during each workshop. Some yummy nibbles will also be available on arrival. There's lots of free parking available at the venue, on Plunket Street and the carpark across the road. Access to and within Rangi Delamere Centre is excellent.
These workshops are suitable for 13 years and above and as we are working with small parts, please bring any reading/prescription glasses so you have an enjoyable experience. We will be working with paint pens and glue so do consider this when deciding on your kākahu for the day.
Tracey Gardner will be hosting these workshops. Tracey is a Māori designer, jewellery maker, local business owner (MISS MAIA) of Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau descent. She's excited to share her skills and expertise with the local Kawerau community.
Huge thanks to Kawerau District Council and Creative Communities NZ for making these workshops possible through their support and funding for the community of Kawerau. Before registering please be mindful that Kawerau-based registrations will be prioritised if a waitlist occurs.
