About this Event

Māori community development is critical for Māori suicide prevention and postvention. Māori community involvement, engagement, and leadership in framing aspirations by Māori for Māori development practices, have been impacted by the policies of successive governments. This has effectively shaped Māori community development to align with government priorities and processes including the development of Māori social and health service contracts. Since 2005, Māori development has been driven by self-determination agendas. This change focuses Māori community development on social justice work, tribal based economic development, marae development, political advancement, and self-determination. This webinar explores how community develop works to build onto opportunities for self-determination at all levels from whānau ora, hapū led solutions, iwi development solutions and Māori community led responses and presents models of effective by Māori for Māori suicide prevention and post-vention strategies. Māori community development through indigenous entrepreneurship is part of Māori community driven responses to suicide prevention and post-vention. Exemplars of Māori community development in the kaupapa will be discussed in this webinar.
