MATES in Construction - Connector Workshop
Event Information
About this Event
The MATES in Construction Connector Workshop is designed for those on site who volunteer to become a Connector in the MATES in Construction framework. It's a step up from the General Awareness Training (GAT) which you need to have completed before doing this workshop. Sign up for the GAT on 24th Nov in Wanaka by going to the MATES in Construction link below.
A Connector helps keep someone in crisis safe, while at the same time connecting them to professional help. This is an in-depth training session and often suited to the person who gets texts to lend a hand and/or the Health and Safety person on the team.
Wanaka crews are often small, so a connector in every team would be a great asset. In larger teams, 1 in every 20 workers allows for adequate coverage across the site and across crews.
About MATES in Construction
The MATES programme uses training as a tool to raise awareness that there is a problem with suicide and its contributing risk factors within our industry – and that we can all be part of the solution. Support is then provided through clear pathways to help. The case management processes ensure that workers in need of support are connected to appropriate help; and on-site visits by field officers to support the site and its workers in an ongoing presence. Whilst Wanaka is yet to have it’s own field officer Mates are recruiting for Central Otago and hope this will be in place in 2021.
This event is supported by WAO - wao.co.nz and sponsored by Mitre 10 Mega Wanaka.
