This month: “Building Auckland’s Start-Up Ecosystem” by Russell O'Brien

Russell has been invited by the International Society for Professional Innovation Managers to speak at a conference in Fukuoka Japan on the growth and development of Auckland’s start-up ecosystem. This talk is called "Building Auckland’s Start-Up Ecosystem” and will cover how to define and assess the health of innovation and start-up ecosystems with an emphasis on Auckland’s technology ecosystem and in particular identify what local government interventions can used to accelerate growth and improve the health of the ecosystem.

Russell O’Brien is founder and CEO of Cognitis Innovation, an innovation consultancy specialising in city scale innovation ecosystems and corporate innovation management. As Head of Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the City of Auckland he lead the design and delivery of Auckland’s Innovation Plan. He also worked for New Zealand’s Callaghan Innovation where he was responsible for the design and roll out of New Zealand’s government funded Technology Incubators. Russell has founded and exited a number of start-up technology companies, he is an experienced public and private sector leader and is an accomplished public speaker.
