About this event

  • Event lasts 45 minutes

Jupiter’s sailing boat is a beautiful craft. Fully rigged with its big white sail, you can experience the real boat he sails off to adventure in. He will teach you the parts of the boat, how they work, and if you learn them well he will give out prizes. Make sure you take notes, make a drawing, and label it. He’ll give you his sketch to help you. And then you can have a go in the sail boat yourself.

Bring a notepad and pencils, and an adventurous spirit.

Ages 8-13

All participants will receive a $10 voucher to be spent at the Tamariki Book Festival on 13 July.

About the presenter:

Marc Meaney is the teller of exciting tales of far off lands and distant seas. As the captain of sailing yachts he has fought mountainous seas, washed up on tropical desert isles, and survived on the fruits of strange shores throughout Asia and the South Seas.

Can we believe the sea captain’s stories? They are likely all tall tales and fabrications – but always remember that while the truth may may wear the mask of fiction, wisdom gleams within every tale he spins.

Cap’n Meaney lives in Otautahi Christchurch on the shores of Aotearoa New Zealand – until wanderlust calls him out to sea once more where adventure awaits the curious and the brave.
