Description
New Zealand is fortunate to host the internationally-renowned Michael Hill International Violin Competition on its shores. To ensure Kiwis have the opportunity to learn directly from the masters and to engage with their international peers “on the circuit”, the Competition, with its partners The University of Auckland, New Zealand School of Music, Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and Chamber Music New Zealand, is proud to present Masterclasses in New Zealand University Schools of Music, the NZ-wide Varsity Violin programme and Classroom Conversations as professional development opportunities for the competitors and public alike.
AUCKLAND MASTERCLASSES AND WORKSHOPS
There are five Masterclasses and three Workshops taking place in Auckland.
The first two Masterclasses (James Ehnes and Mauricio Fuks) will take place at Philharmonia Hall, 427 Dominion Road, Mt Eden and the remaining three Masterclasses and three Workshops will take place at the School of Music, University of Auckland, 06 Symonds Street, Central Auckland.
These Masterclasses and Workshops are free of charge and open to the general public - however attendees MUST pre-register via Eventbrite.

Mauricio Fuks Masterclass: 12:00pm - 2:00pm, Philharmonia Hall, 427 Dominion Road, Mt Eden
Clara-Jumi Kang Masterclass: 5:30pm - 7:00pm, School of Music, University of Auckland
Friday 7 June
Anthony Marwood Masterclass: 10:00am - 12:00pm, School of Music, University of Auckland
Ning Feng Masterclass: 12:00pm - 2:00pm, School of Music, University of Auckland
Saturday 8 June
Wilma Smith Play-Along Workshop for violinists (grade 7 and higher, all ages - 40 places available, plus limited places available for family members): 10:00am - 12:00pm, School of Music, University of Auckland
Tighten up your bow and play-along with Competition judge, and New Zealand favourite Wilma Smith. Wilma will lead the assembled through a workshop designed to build violin technique and sound production. Suitable for violinists of all ages grade 7 or higher. Registered violinists will be emailed music for the workshop and are expected to come prepared.
