Bring your team, and your A-Game, to the first-ever Minecraft:EE ESports challenge of this kind in Ōtautahi, Chch.

About this event

Introducing a Minecraft:EE Speed build Esports event, the first-ever hui of its kind in Ōtautahi, Christchurch.

Bought to you by Te Papatipu Matihiko, impactED and Christchurch City Libraries.

Delivered in English Medium, with Te Ao Māori values and te reo Māori at the forefront. New Zealand Sign Language interpreters available for the day. Please indicate if you require this in the registration form.

The tournament is open to 12 teams of 4 ākonga from Year 7/8, who are ready to battle against each other in speed builds, and a Spleef challenge using the context of Sir Ian Taylors Mātauranga - Land of Voyagers content.

It will be a jam-packed day with prizes, live streaming, MC, comps and an epic esports set up thanks to Victory Up and Christchurch City Libraries.

VIP GUEST: Sir Ian Taylor will be joining us for the morning to see the building of his teams Mātauranga vision in action.

Team Registration

Feel free to register more than one team for your school. (Other school registrations will depend on how many teams we register from your school. We will let you know, giving you time to prepare.)

Schools will be eligible for one kaiako paid release per team. YES! Your kura will be paid release for your participation. Kura can also access up to $80 travel allowance for the day if required. Just tick the boxes in registration.

All ākonga who participate in a team, will receive an ESports Ōtautahi tournament T-shirt (Sponsored by Dynasty Sport) to wear on the day and a swag bag (Sponsored by Harvey Norman, impactED, and Microsoft) full of goodies.

Kai provided for kaiako and teams.

Support material will be available for your team to train for the tournament, helping them to be prepared and ready to do their best.

Tournament rules will be sent out closer to the hui date.

Please ensure your teams arrive at 8am, for a health and well-being briefing with Te Papatipu Matihiko.

Bring your hype! Be ready to bring your A-game. We want this to be a positive event for all involved, celebrating our amazing tamariki from around Waitaha.

Rules of engagement will be sent out closer to the day.

We also need amazing enthusiastic people in the arena. This is a free event to come along and see ESports in action. We have room for 300, so whether it is someone in your whānau, your class, or you are interested then please join us for this EPIC event!!! School groups are welcome to join us for an action packed day!

Register as many as you like. Please bring your own kai, timings will be set to make sure you have time to stretch and eat. There is a cafe on site.

This is a live-streamed event: All entries and audience members must agree to the possibility of being filmed or in photos as part of the media coverage.

Participants of all ages are welcome. Anyone under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a person 16 years or older. Anyone under the age of 16 must have permission from their school or whānau attend.
