Event description
A 4-day residential retreat, blending qi gong and mindfulness practice

About this event

In this retreat, we blend qi gong and mindfulness meditation, taking the time to pay attention to our actual experience as we sit and as we move. When we do this we feel more open, grounded and alive. No matter what is going on in our life, in our thoughts, or bodies, mindfulness offers the opportunity to genuinely relax and let go. Qi gong is a wonderful Taoist system designed to improve the flow of energy (qi) in the body, create vitality and concentrate the mind. The qi gong practices we will learn include qi gong warm ups, qi gong self-massage, the Shibashi part i qi gong form, the six Taoist healing sounds, and more. These will be practices you can take away and use at home to relax and vitalise your body and mind.

The retreat will be mostly in silence for participants, but there will be plenty of guidance, tuition and input from me/. The first evening and the last morning are not in silence, and there will be a one-hour circle each day to talk and share insights, questions and comments.

You are welcome to join as much or as little of the scheduled programme as you wish; this is a retreat in which none of the usual social expectations are placed on you. It offers you a very rare chance for you to come home to the OK-ness of yourself, just as you are. We will begin each morning with stretches and meditation before breakfast, and in the evenings there will be Feldenkrais ‘Awareness through Movement"‘ lessons. There will be time out for reflection and to walk and explore the beautiful native bush tracks, as well as delicious vegetarian meals, which Te Moata is famous for.

Please note:

Te Moata charges a $15 surcharge for bedding; $10 surcharge / day for special diets:

$5 - $10 surcharge per person per night for single/double room or hut requests.

You can bring this in cash for Lorraine, the retreat manager, when you come to the retreat.

Please Email rachel@theartofmindfulness.co.nz if you require any of the options below:

people say

‘If you need time out for yourself, in a loving and warm environment, I recommend one of Rachel’s retreats. Her wisdom and kindness are truly wonderful.’

- Kirsty Kynoch, 2020 Oct retreat

‘This is a retreat to return to your Source, to return to Papatuanuku. … Rachel is an incredible facilitator…. The energy, stability and movements of qi gong constantly reflected those of the beautiful forest and river surroundings of Te Moata retreat centre.’

- participant from 2020 Oct retreat

‘Rachel was so incredibly accessible and human in her teaching – there was no ego or pretense of knowing everything, and that made the experience so much more relatable.’

- Kelly Pretty, 2020 Oct retreat.
