Natural Swimming Pools & Water in Permaculture Systems with Daniel Tohill
Sat 5 November 2016, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM NZDT
Recapture that back-to-nature feeling in your backyard (or school) with a natural biological swimming pool. Natural biological pools are a perfect, non-chlorine alternative for urban and rural backyards. You can even convert your existing pool.
Biological pools harness nature to do the work, and no nasty chemicals are used in the process.
The basic principal applies to ponds as well, and provides habitat in the filtration zone for a diverse ecosystem of plants, insects and even tadpoles!
MORNING: A focus on natural biological pools, ponds and dams. Break for lunch
AFTERNOON: Capturing and using water on the land from a permaculture perspective. This includes swales, raingardens, using and treating grey and blackwater, Chinampa systems, water harvesting systems.
Then walk around the eco village to look at examples including a bio pool, ponds and dams.
WHAT TO BRING: Tea/coffee provided. Bring your own lunch, a raincoat, sturdy shoes, pen and paper.
LOCATION: Otamatea Ecovillage is based 4km west of Kaiwaka, and established 15 years ago using permaculture principles. It consists of 15 x 5 acre lots, and common land of 200 acres.
