Nature journaling in the Vege Garden for keen kids
Event Information
About this Event
Do you like to be in nature? Do you like to draw? All the great explorers make sure to record their discoveries. If you have sharp eyes and love to spot interesting plants and creatures, come join us at the magnificent Edible Garden at Auckland Botanic Gardens. Learn how to observe and detail your discoveries and start a nature journal of your own. Bring your own grown-up and work together if you like.
(PS for this workshop you don't need to be good at drawing, you just need to enjoy it!).
Suitable for ages 8-15.
Your workshop guide:
Our visiting Artist Jennifer Duval-Smith is a greedy Auckland based botanical painter who loves to paint edible plants just before she eats them, (but sometimes gets the order wrong). She wants you to find out how much fun it is to watch fat bumblebees swimming in bright flowers and see how beautiful your food is as it grows in the warm earth.
Carers welcome to participate so long as they book
Max 20 people
Meet at the visitor centre to start (the workshop will be held in the Edible Garden with a wet-weather venue available too).
We supply paper, clipboards, colour pencils, magnifying glasses, reference books
Participants should bring:
sun protection
water bottle
something to sit on so you'll be comfortable drawing outside
Your own sketchbook, or art materials if you prefer to use them
