Prepare to be surrounded by the magic and wonder of the Christmas season!
Families will love the magical train ride in one of our specially decorated carriages. You’ll meet Santa, sing, and celebrate this special time of year.
Set to the sounds of carols passengers are invited to join us to be whisked away on the North Pole Express. Delight in the magic of Christmas as the train departs for a journey to collect Santa who has been magically transported to an undisclosed location along the tracks.
From the distance the North Pole Express arrives then the train Conductors invite you and the other passengers to climb aboard shouting “All aboard!”.
All Aboard
During the first leg of the journey wide-eyed children of all ages are invited to engage with characters who are eager to hear what makes the Christmas season special to them.
You’ll meet the conductor, and join in the fun singing and dancing with your hosts and a few other characters who will appear in your carriage on the journey.
At the 'North Pole' Cocoa Class passengers enjoy their iced chocolate from their souvenir mug, and a delicious cookie served by our North Pole Express hosts. Candy and Claus Class passengers will be served aboard the train on the way to the North Pole.
Along the journey Santa appears in your carriage to present each passenger with their very own Christmas ornament. During the trip, characters in each carriage lead passengers in carolling and entertainment as the train makes its way back home.
Children UNDER 2 years (0-23 months) and travelling on the lap of an Adult are FREE. All Passengers 2 years old and over must hold a purchased ticket.
Please note: Seating in our Candy and Claus Classes is strictly limited. Candy and Claus Class Guests receive some extra surprises and treats along the way.
Seating in all carriages is arranged in a configuration of 4 seats as per normal train travel. NPE always endeavour to ensure those who book more than 4 seats are seated in close proximity to each other to ensure they can enjoy the experience together. Children under the age of 2 and travelling on the lap of an adult travel for free.
Wheelchair access: Due to the age and design of the carriages it is not possible to board whist seated in a wheelchair as the entrance is stairs and the doorways are very narrow. However we will be pleased to convey passengers of limited mobility whenever possible provided they can step onto the train from the platform, climbing a step and move to their reserved seats with the help of an able bodied carer. Our crew would assist guiding the passenger up the step onto the train and arrange for the storage of the wheelchair in the guards van. The wheelchair must be able to be folded up and cannot be used on the train. Please let us know when booking if you need wheelchair assistance.

Groups wishing to sit together should purchase under the same order. All tickets purchased in the same order will be seated in a group within close proximity to each other.
Seating in Claus & Candy Class is strictly limited. Candy & Claus Class guests travel in comfort and receive some extra surprises and treats along the way. Claus Class is smaller than all other carriages and can be booked as a private carriage.
Yes, all passengers require a ticket for the North Pole Express. Children under the age of 2 and travelling on the lap of an adult travel for free but require an 'Under 2' ticket.
The reindeer names make it easier for you to find your carriage at the platform on the day. Carriage hosts will be holding a banner with your carriage/reindeer name.
Due to the age and design of the carriages it's not possible to board whist seated in a wheelchair. We convey passengers of limited mobility when possible provided they can step onto the train from the platform, climb a step & move to their seats help of a carer. See our website for more info.
The train is fully enclosed, the services depart regardless of weather. There are bathroom facilities onboard the train.

Tickets are emailed, these should be presented at our station 15 minutes prior to departure. Please be prepared to show a copy of your confirmation email (electronic or paper) and a valid photo ID.
As long as the pushchair is foldable then it will not be a problem to bring it on the train. It will be stored in the luggage area/guards van.
In the event of cancellation by intending passengers, no refunds will be made.
In the event that a passenger wishes to change their ticket to an alternate time, date or carriage this will only be possible if there is availability. You can only transfer one ticket at a time. Transferring to a lower-priced ticket will not issue a refund.
Yes, you can purchase a carriage for your group. Please email team@ontrackevents.co.nz prior to 15 June if you are interested in purchasing a private carriage. Once we commence presale we are no longer able to offer private carriages.
