NZGDC Workshop - Carrier-Bag Storytelling for Games with Alexander Swords

Narrative design structures for games based on curiosity, compassion and transformation.

For those who share Ursula K. Le Guin’s view that story is change, and that conflict is only one of the many and varied ways change can be achieved on the screen and in the hearts and minds of players.

It will start with simple techniques for allowing curiosity as a primary player motivation, and finish with the transcendental form as an advanced technique for human-scale stories that elevate compassion as a modular alternative to conflict that holds space for feminist, queer, and anti-colonial concepts.
