About this event
In 2019, the Retirement Income Interest Group (RIIG) of the New Zealand Society of Actuaries (NZSA) made a submission to the statutory Review of Retirement Income, which was led by the Commission for Financial Capability. Our submission was based on two RIIG papers. The first was prepared in 2018 and is entitled Retirement Income Policy in New Zealand: A Discussion of Context and Principles. We prepared the second in 2019, entitled Longevity in New Zealand: Implications for Retirement Income Policy.
At this sessional meeting, Alison O'Connell (lead author of the longevity paper) and Daniel Mussett (Convenor of the RIIG) will summarise the content and recommendations of the papers, making specific reference to how they contributed to our submission to the Review. We will also discuss our experience of positioning our work to have impact on the policy formation process, and share our insights into how other members of the NZSA might wish to approach similar public interest initiatives. We hope for a good discussion on longevity trends, retirement income policy and on how actuaries can get involved in the policy making process.
The RIIG submission and both papers are available on the NZSA website. See “Submissions” under the “Resources and Publications” tab. You are encouraged to read at least the submission (only 3 pages) and view the papers if possible in advance.
