About this Event
Do you want to find out more about your role as a board member and what good governance looks like in a school?
Then this is the workshop for you! You can find the resources HERE.
This training is suitable for new board members or anyone looking for a refresher course (please note that this is combination of our previous workshops Governance Essentials 1 and 2).
This workshop is focused on activity-based learning. We recommend you download the supporting workbook and familiarise yourself with the contents prior to coming along.
By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:
• Recognise the components of the legislative framework
• Describe the make-up of your board
• Appreciate the importance of building effective relationships with key stakeholders, your principal and fellow board members
• Differentiate between the board and the principal’s leadership roles in your school
• Identify your role as a board member in the concerns and complaints process
• Explain your board’s governance model
• List the board’s key documentation in your governance framework
NZSTA expects that participants will:
• Respond to a confirmation email that they will be attending. Note, if sufficient numbers are not enrolled, a decision to cancel will be made 2 days prior to the event
• Actively participate in the workshop including any activities that need to be completed prior to the session (e.g. reading or research activities).
• Access relevant learning resources through the NZSTA website and /or knowledge hub prior to the workshop. There is no expectation that participants will be online during the workshop.
