Strategic Planning and Reporting

About this event

About this event

As a school board, you are accountable for the performance of your school or kura and play a vital role in deciding and leading future direction and performance.

Planning and reporting are important functions that support your ability to perform your role.

Setting targets for the coming year, regularly reviewing progress, and evaluating what has been achieved means your school and students will be better placed for educational success.

This workshop will provide you with an introduction to strategic planning and reporting and how this works in schools.

This training is suitable for new school board members or anyone looking for a refresher course.

Our workshops are focused on activity-based learning, and we recommend you familiarise yourself with the contents of the supporting workbook prior to coming along.

Click HERE to find the workbook, please bring your own copy (printed or electronic) to the workshop.

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  • Rate your school against the characteristics of successful schools and kura
  • Explain how governance and management work together when undertaking strategic planning and reporting
  • Describe the four stages of the strategic planning and reporting cycle and what your board should be doing at each stage
  • Explain what your board should consider when setting your strategic goals and outcomes and how these flow through to your school
  • Start preparing for the new Planning and Reporting Framework in 2023
  • Identify the key elements of a strategic plan and annual implementation plan

NZSTA expects that participants will:

  • Respond to a confirmation email if they will not be attending this workshop, this allows us to offer their place to the next person on the waitlist.
  • Actively participate in the workshop including any activities that need to be completed prior to the session (e.g., reading or research activities).
  • Access relevant learning resources through the NZSTA website and/or knowledge hub prior to the workshop. There is no expectation that participants will be online during the workshop.

Note: in the case of low enrolment numbers, a decision to cancel will be made 2 days prior to the event.
