Ockham Residential lecture Series: Renee Bevan - the imbued object

‘Riding mankind. When jewellery comes to be. Forming meaningful content. Objects, dead or alive...’

Contemporary jeweller Renee Bevan reflects on ideas, stories and experiences that underpin her ongoing research. Painting a context for her current practice within the framework of her recent work Burial Necklace.

'Burial Necklace' is part of the exhibition 'The Language of Things: Meaning and Value in Contemporary Jewellery', curated by Sian van Dyk, currently on show at The Dowse Art Museum, 24th Feb - 24th June 2018 and culminated from The Blumhardt Residency, in partnership with The Dowse Art Museum.

The imbued object was first presented as part of Unpacking The Language of Things Symposium. Dowse Art Museum, April 2018.

Renee Bevan is of Cook Island and European descent and resides in Auckland. In 2002, she gained Bachelor of Visual Arts from The University of Auckland and since then has been included in numerous national and international exhibitions including Schmuck 2008 and Ontkend! (Jewellery Unleashed) in 2011. She is represented in the collections of The Dowse Art Museum, Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa and The Auckland War Memorial Museum. Bevan is the inaugural recipient of The Blumhardt Residency.
