Back again for 2020! Due to the success of the events held last year, Cognition Education is pleased to present

Back again for 2020! Due to the success of the events held last year, Cognition Education is pleased to present our Oral Language workshops: The Pedagogy and the Practice. Again, these events will be hosted by our resident Oral Language expert, Del Costello.

At Cognition Education, Oral Language is a building block for literacy progression and a foundation for our literacy PLD approach. Our literacy team supports leaders and teachers to build a school-wide literacy capability that is sustainable and equitable. Our approach leverages the diversity of the communities we work with, in order to grow learner’s identity and self-efficacy.

We all know how important Oral Language is for our learners. It supports social-emotional development, cognitive development and is a defining contributor in academic achievement. Employers are telling us that communication skills, the ability to work in collaborate ways and the ability to be creative and innovative are highly important skills. As educators, we must take the lead in this space and work to build assessable, explicit and effective ways to integrate Oral Language into our context in meaningful ways for our learners.

In this one-day workshop, Del Costello will:

  • Unpack the key research around oral language development and its impact within a school setting.
  • Explore the pedagogy of Oral Language.
  • Give an insight into what effective Oral Language practice might look like.
  • Provide opportunity to reflect on Oral Language practice at your school or in your classroom.

Last year’s workshops received glowing reviews:

“The workshop was extremely relevant with a good mix of research, practical activities and helping everyone to consider how to move our own school's current practice forward.”

“The collaborative aspect of the workshop was beneficial. I enjoyed meeting and listening to the other participants.”

“The content was affirming, informative and practical and the sound research gave us food for thought.”

This workshop is not to be missed if you wish to improve oral language as a foundation skill across your school and lift student achievement. Secure your spot NOW by booking one of three dates. Let’s get talking!
