Come fly with us at the 5th annual Otaki Kite Festival, one hour’s drive north of Wellington, presented by the Otaki Promotions Group Inc.
Fun for all the family, this free event brings together NZKA kite fliers from all around New Zealand, Peter Lynn Kites of Ashburton and international guest kite fliers from Australia Tony Rice, Linda Sanders, Kevin Sanders, Trevor Reeves and Yvonne de Mille (global), to showcase their artistry, design and flying skills. Spectacular kites of all shapes, sizes and styles thrill those viewing from the beach, above the dunes and the Pavilion roof - expect to be delighted by the sight of massive inflatable kites.
Bring your own kite and join in - kites available for sale from Information Tent on both days (plus Railway Bookshop, Main St. Otaki and Riverstone Cafe, SH1 priced $15-$30).
Visit our food and drink vendors located around the site and browse the market stalls to find something special to take home! Be sure to look out for the kiddies’ entertainment area too.
On Saturday 25th March at 11am - Harcourts big dig - come join in the fun.
Rokkaku Kite Fighting Challenge - several rounds of battle where each kite flier tries to bring the other kites down using their kite line. The last kite flying is the winner and points are scored each round. The team with the greatest points over the two days is awarded the trophy.
Be entertained on-stage, throughout the day and finishing up on both days, by The Improvisors. Established in 1990, they have been committed to bringing laughter to people through the unique style of Improv Comedy. This show is for families, helping kids use their imagination and letting adults have a giggle as we make up stories from your suggestion.
