About this event

Parka Insurances in association with AIA are pleased to bring Sir Graham Henry to Porirua as part of their ongoing commitment to mental health and the Offload programme.

Sir Graham Henry (nicknamed ‘Ted’) has a reputation of success; someone who is a straight talker and in more recent years an outspoken advocate for mental health. Sir Graham is known as one of the most experienced coaches in the world having coached at school boy through to provincial and Super Rugby level, successfully winning NPC titles with Auckland and with the Blues. Sir Graham moved into International rugby coaching Wales and the British & Irish Lions and lastly was appointed head coach of New Zealand in 2004.

Sir Graham’s rugby success is hard to match where he finished up as one of the most successful All Black coaches of all time, coaching the team to 88 wins in 103 tests – 85.4% winning percentage. Sir Graham was made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2012 New Year Honours, for services to rugby.

Come and listen to Sir Graham share his experiences from his time in his professional career what needed to change, when he took charge of his teams – both from the culture of the teams and learnings from how he needed to change as a coach.

Hear about some of the contributors to sir Graham’s success including the need to check your ego; to empower the players and to confront your weaknesses to grow. Listen around Sir Graham’s time at Wales; the pressure around taking on too much and the impact on his mental health - and what he did that is still working for him 20+ years later.

Sir Graham will be interviewed by David Steele – a man whom has received numerous Taupo sports and business awards and Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors. Aside from hosting a radio sports show for the last 25 years, he is also the co-founding director of DPA Charted Accountants and was made a Fellow of Charted Accountants Australia and New Zealand. David also finds time amongst all of this to be a marriage celebrant and is a big family man.

Bar facilities will; be open and a Spit Roast meal will be served
