About this event

Schedule:

9:30 am to 10:00 am - Group meetup and introductions

10:00 am to 1:00 pm - Tree Planting

About the Planting Day:

It is with our great pride to announce that Pinoy Adventurer NZ has reached its 4th birthday! From a small and simple meetup group to a now massive one with 2k members, we are amazed to have come this far. We have a few plans in store for our anniversary so keep an eye out for announcements. For now, we are glad to open up this next event as part of our celebration.

Last year, we were supposed to hold our very first volunteer tree planting event. Unfortunately, it got caught in the midst of lockdown and we had to cancel. Now that its the new year, we're binging it back and welcoming the long postponed event: Tree Planting at Waitawa Regional Park.

Located 50km from Central Auckland, Waitawa Regional Park is a southern coast nature park that's made up of three peninsulas and long bays that stretch across its perimeter. Its full of open fields - perfect for recreation and outdoor activities for everyone. We'll be joined by Auckland Council members and other fellow volunteers, and help plant the trees they have grown from simple seed.

How to join:

Group registration with Auckland Parks will be done by Pinoy Adventurers NZ group, so there'll be no need for individual registration. Just tick going, book at Eventbrite and you're all set!

What to bring/wear:

• Good enclosed boots or shoes, e.g. gum boots, hiking boots, trail shoes – would be ideal

• Weather-appropriate clothing, i.e. water and windproof jacket, sun protections, etc.

• Your own spade, if you like, though Auckland Council will have some available for you to borrow

• Your own gloves (rather than borrow), though Auckland Council will have some too.

• Drinks and snacks

• Something to tie your hair back if you’ve got long hair

• A change of clothes and shoes to leave in the car (as you’ll be very muddy)

• Optional: kneeling pad (or anything to kneel on as it makes a difference on your knees when you’ve been planting for a few hours)

• We're encouraging everyone to bring food for our salo-salo Anniversary celebration. Auckland council will also be providing food at the end of the event.

Just a few notes:

Follow the signs you'll see when you arrive at the park, and join us at the meeting site. Prepare to get muddy!

After planting, we can head out to the beach area and chill out a bit.

We’d like to encourage carpooling, so if anyone can offer or is in need of a ride, please post a note below. Salamat!

We may have Pinoy on our name, but we welcome anyone who is keen to connect with our Filipino culture through the outdoors, regardless of their ethnicity.
