Event description
Parks Leaders Forum session, “How to survive the local government pressure cooker – strategies for leaders’ well-being in times of stress”

About this event

The Parks Leaders Forum will run this session not just as a reflection of the prominence our sector had during the Covid-19 National Emergency for the Pandemic and the pressure over the past year overall, but also in the regular work life of parks and recreational professionals where many outside of our sector do not believe the scope, scale and complexity of our responsibilities.

Over the past year a number of Parks Managers and staff have exited roles due to stress and issues that have made it untenable stress wise. This is not unusual, but it should not be accepted as normal. This presently even seems worse than the regular turnover of leaders. Agencies have trouble filing senior roles and the sector struggles to attract an influx of people choosing Parks and Recreation as a career or degree/ training focus.

Join this inclusive and interactive session where participants are ‘on tour’. A setting for courageous conversations and adult moments amongst peers, a session for calling it as you see it, for listening, sharing and once through a few war stories, prompting some strategies people use to support themselves and each other.
