Zoomfest Process:

Presentations available for viewing on the PESA website from 20th to 26th August. You are invited to view these before the Zoomfest.

On the 27th August attendees will be able to engage in a two-hour Zoomfest with 2 keynotes, the presenters and other attendees. Most of the time at Zoomfest will be used for discussion. Discussion panels may include several presenters talking within similar themes.

Overview:

Recognising the limitations on bodily presence imposed by the current pandemic, this Zoomfest will focus on both the phenomenon of being embodied/disembodied in education, as well as philosophies and theories that are themselves said to either be concrete or removed from the real world. Indeed, the more fundamental concept of ‘body’ may be at stake in such conversations. We anticipate interesting dialogues between east and west, indigenous and non-indigenous, abstract and concrete. We welcome research and discussion beyond the conventionally rational, and emphasise the following themes:

• Intercultural notions of body

• Embodying the environment

• Expression and its possible materiality

• Self and other

• Going viral

• Disconnection and fragmentation

• Interconnection and holism

• Distance and nearness

• Virtual reality

This event will also address the significance for philosophy of education of embracing comparative, transcultural, and intercultural approaches. Explorations emphasising global, international, and cosmopolitan possibilities are welcome. A special issue of Educational Philosophy & Theory and a monograph will be developed from select texts and presentations from the symposium presentations.

In line with the objects of the Philosophy of Education Society of Australasia, this Zoomfest seeks to promote research that is fundamentally philosophical and/or theoretical in nature. While references to qualitative and/or quantitative empirical research data may be found in philosophy of education scholarship, successful submissions will have strong philosophical and/or theoretical foundations and implications.
