New pool legislation and acceptable solutions in play this year.

Understand what you need to know about the new laws, and how to complete pool assessments

2 Facts:

  • Councils will be required to inspect every pool within a 3-year cycle
  • Independent Pool Inspectors will be able to to apply to MBIE to offer these services too

This practical and comprehensive 2 day course will provide the basis for understanding the legal requirements, completing pool assessments and writing reports.

This course will cover practical pool inspection activities and assessments, giving you a hands on learning environment to practice in.

You will learn:

  • The legal requirements for pool fences - old and new
  • What categorise as exempted pools
  • How to understand the F9 Building Code clause and acceptable solutions for new fences
  • How to handle previously accepted pools, spa pools and swim spas
  • About audits and existing pool fencing inspections
  • About recording requirements
  • Where to find and how to understand correspondence and N\notices under this legislation
  • How to effectively communicate with owners/occupiers
  • What enforcement options there are

Steve is trade qualified builder, LBP and qualified building inspector with over 35 years of experience in the industry including both residential and commercial projects. He possesses an extensive knowledge relative to the regulatory frameworks and quality aspects of the building industry having worked previously for local territorial authorities, private building consultancy companies along together with the Registered Masters Builders Association as a quality expert.

While he was with Papakura District Council as Manager of Building Control and Environmental Services, he was responsible for the delivery of all regulatory functions under the Building Act. This included processing and issuing of Building Consents, Code Compliance Certificates and undertaking inspections and enforcing the Building Act provisions with respect to un-consented and dangerous building works.

With the qualifications and experience in all aspects of the building industry, he is able to offer quality technical and procedural advice. Together with a practical approach and a guarantee of good trade practice, he provide a high level of expertise.
