About this Event

Fancy seeing what the port looks like in action? Come and explore Auckland’s port on a bus tour prior to SeePort Concert and Fireworks #SeePortAKL. Tours of the port will be running from 10am – 4pm on Sunday 31 January 2021.

NB: The 12pm and 2pm bus tour will have a sign language interpreter from NZSL.

Jump on board the bus and drive right into the heart of the port on this 45-minute bus tour. This behind-the-scenes tour shows you a working port from the inside, big machinery and all!

With commentary from our very own port workers, come and learn about where your goods come and go from, the three largest cranes in New Zealand, and our new automated terminal. We are never short of things to talk about at Ports of Auckland and we can’t wait to take you beyond the red fence and share our knowledge with the public.

We run these behind-the-scenes tours every year as part of our annual open weekend. This year, due to COVID–19 our usual open weekend has changed and we’re running tours for ONE DAY ONLY. To secure your spot, there is a small fee, with all proceeds going to the Auckland City Mission.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions there is also a strict ‘no mask, no ride’ policy. We encourage you to bring your own mask, but we will have a supply of disposable masks on hand too. We will also have QR codes on the bus for you to scan.

As you will be entering a Customs Controlled Area (CCA) and will need to present photographic ID if you are 16 years and over. Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and must have their identity vouched for. It is against the law to enter a CCA without ID. If you don’t bring ID, we are legally not allowed to let you enter and we will not refund your ticket. Drivers Licence or Passport are both acceptable forms of ID.

Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair access, we are working to resolve this for future years. The 12pm and 2pm bus tour will have a sign language interpreter from NZSL. Further accessibility information is available on our website www.seeport.co.nz

FAQS:

Do I have to pre-book? Or can I join the queue at the event?

We highly recommend you prebook your spot via Eventbrite due to our bus tours being in high demand. However, we have a select number of spots for ‘door sales’ at SeePort. Just come and find our lovely SeePort team at the bus tour tent and they will check you in.

Where do I check-in for my tour?

This year, you will need to make your way to the bus tour waiting area on Captain Cook Wharf. We ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes before your tour’s scheduled departure time to allow ample time for boarding. You will be checked in by a member of the SeePort team before heading out. Remember to bring valid photo ID and a mask.

How long is each tour and where will we go?

Each tour is approximately 45 minutes long from departure to arrival. The bus will venture all around the port’s wharves, under cranes, and through our container terminal. You'll get a close-up look at port operations along the way, including the cranes and straddle carriers and any ships in port.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Captain Cook and Marsden wharves are along Quay Street. There are nearby parking options, including paid parking at the Downtown Carpark, a short walk from Captain Cook Wharf. If you are traveling by public transport, the Britomart Transport Centre and Ferry Building are both a short walk away from the festival. Make sure you check the AT website for transport and bus options as rail lines will be closed for maintenance.

Can I update my registration information?

You can update the information on your order by clicking your order on the Tickets page of your Eventbrite account. If you can't see an "Edit" link please contact Ports of Auckland by emailing info@poal.co.nz.

Can I change my ride to another time/date?

You can transfer your tickets to another time and/or date subject to availability, up to one week before your booking.

Why do you need details for each passenger?

We need to request details for all passengers, including kids, as you will be entering a Customs Controlled Area (just like going into the airport), so that you have the option to transfer tickets at a later date if required, and as a COVID-19 contact tracing measure.
