Event description

Description

Celebrate our city during this year's Auckland Heritage Festival. Take a trip back in time on this 90-minute cruise aboard the historic William C Daldy steam tugboat, one of the port's first tugs built in 1935.

This family-friendly tour will cruise through the port's wharves at work and under the Auckland Harbour Bridge where the Daldy once famously saved a piece from floating away during construction.

Explore the boat at your leisure - watch the engine room in action, visit the captain in the wheelhouse and help the crew shovel coal down below! Or sit back and enjoy a detailed commentary on Auckland's maritime history as you take in views of the Waitematā Harbour. Check out this video from last year's festival.

Proceeds from ticket sales will go to the William C Daldy Preservation Society, a group of volunteers keeping the Daldy afloat for Aucklanders to enjoy. A portion will also go to the Ports of Auckland Education Programme which helps subsidise the cost of transport for schools visiting the city to take one of the port's free, year-round school boat tours.

IMPORTANT: The map shows the location of the New Zealand Maritime Museum. To access Hobson Wharf, you must walk past the New Zealand Maritime Museum and turn right (if walking from the corner of Quay and Hobson streets) to walk down Hobson Wharf. Look out for the blue and yellow steam tug!
