Event description
Te Auaha Stage & Screen presents a new work inspired by T.S Eliot's 1922 poem, 'The Waste Land'

About this Event

Kia ora, whānau

In accordance with Government direction and requirements to keep ourselves and each other as safe as possible during this time, Te Auaha has paused all plans for publicly presented performances, including this upcoming season of our third-year Stage & Screen students' devised work , The Smoetinhg.

While we’re understandably sad to miss the chance to share our work with you, we're also 100% committed to the health and safety of all our guests, the extended community and each other.

But this isn't a cancellation! it's an invitation to watch this space… Te Auaha staff, tutors and students are already exploring a bunch of innovative and creative ways we could perform for you over the coming months. Perhaps we'll use the power of the internet to stream live performances direct to you. Maybe we'll adapt shows so that they work for smaller audiences across wider spaces. And if we're lucky enough to get the chance to responsibly mount The Smoetinhg later this year, we promise you'll be the first to know.

You can check what we’ve got planned at the Te Auaha Events website, www.teauahaevents.com. And if you want real-time updates, you can follow our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/teauaha.

Until we see you next, thank you for supporting our students and their creative journeys. Take care of yourselves and each other.

Whitireia Performing Arts and Te Auaha

Blood and lilacs. Sacrifice and lullabies. Rats and kisses. Disease and giggles. Curses and bones and a tree made of glass. There’s a man with an ocean in his hat.

The Smoetinhg is an entirely original production, devised and performed by third year Stage & Screen students. Equal parts exploration and re-imagining, The Smoetinhg takes inspiration from one of modern literature's most lauded and perplexing works to create theatre for the here and now.
